The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a federal government initiative that provides funding for adults and children with disabilities and/or mental health psychosocial issues to access services and supports needed to achieve their life goals. It's a wonderful opportunity for people with disabilities and/or mental health to have the supports they need to participate in education, vocational, leisure, community activities and more.   In Melbourne, the NDIS started to roll out in June 2016. If you are eligible and hoping to obtain funding, you need to apply by clicking here.

You may be eligible for funding if you:

  • Have a disability and/or Mental Health.

  • Experience dual disability,

  • You are aged between 0 and 65,

  • You are an Australian resident.

Your eligibility for funding is determined by a representative of the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). Your application will be reviewed by either a NDIS Planner or Local Area Coordinator. The person assessing your application will ask you to state goals. A goal may be to obtain a job in hospitality, make new friends who share similar interests, or learn how to independently access public transport.

Ready to apply? Here's what you need to do:

  • Call the NDIS on 1800 800 110 and request an ACCESS REQUEST FORM.

  • Get together all your supporting documents.

  • Decide what your primary and secondary goals will be.

  • Decide what services you may like to access so you are clear on what to ask for in your plan.

  • Once you've received your plan, it's time to choose a provider who can help you achieve your goals.

If you need help with being 'Plan Ready' Joining the Dots will offer a private service to assist you with your 'access' to the NDIS.

  • Part of this process is to assist you to gain evidence base documents from your G.P, psychologist /psychiatrist and Joining the Dots will develop a supporting assessment document.

It is important to note, even though there have been successful applications approved, there have been at times difficulty getting 'access' applications approved. Therefore, it is not a guarantee and this needs to be clearly stated before committing privately.

We hope your NDIS journey moves along well, and if you do consider Joining The Dots as your service provider we can only hope your life will become more supportive and meet those achievable goals.
